We’re back after a great Social Innovation eXchange Summer School in Lisbon, hosted at the amazing Gulbenkian Foundation, one of the world’s greatest foundations with an outstanding contribution to art and social innovation.
Among the many, many things we learned, we wanted to share some lessons and some links:
- there is a lot of fantastic work out there, and sharing what we’ve learned is a great opportunity. Some of the best tip-offs we got included (1) the London Knowledge Lab about bringing education and tech together (2) the 5 E’s instructional model and (3) the New York FEGS Career Firsts programme
- one of the most inspiring and successful ways to make innovations work is to align responses to social needs with what makes life good. In other words, a school or hospital that is pleasant to be in, incorporates all of life’s wonders (like arts, music and creativity) can have the best outcomes. A great example we heard about is our East London neighbour the Bromley-by-Bow centre
- across the world, responses to the economic downturn and increasing youth unemployment are a unifying force and an opportunity. The Young Foundation-Cisco new website Fixing the Future has some exciting ideas for how to tackle the challenges of the coming generation.
